A new addition to the Pearson family

On Wednesday morning we brought home a new addition to the Pearson family.

No, not that new addition: A.C. should not be joining us until late September some time. Though whilst we are on the topic, Vicky and Zack saw the midwife today and had the excitement of hearing A.C.'s heartbeat for the first time.

We have a different new addition all together. On Tuesday afternoon, Vicky called me at work to tell me that she and Zack were at Swallows Aquatics and had both "fallen in love" with a particular Corn Snake. When they picked me up from the train station after work, I was expecting to go straight home. Instead we went straight back to the aquatics store so I could be introduced to this snake. When I tell you that Vicky and Zack had already named him, it should come as no surprise that that on Wednesday morning we went back to pick him up and bring him home.

Corn Snakes come in a large number of varieties called morhps, each with their own patterns and colourings. Our snake, Moe, is a 'Christmas' Corn, and it was his bright orange colour that earned that name in honour of Zack's absolute hero: the break dancing drummer, Moe Doodle.

As yet I've not managed to get any decent pictures as he's still getting settled, which is snake for "hiding". All the time. (this is something else he shares with his Doodlebops namesake!) In a few days he should be settled in nicely, and we'll be safe to get him out of the vivarium (tank thingy) without upsettling him.

I admit this was all a bit random and unexpected. When Vicky was pregnant with Zack, she was suddenly desperate to get hamsters, and we ended up with a pair of Roborovski dwarf hamsters, Ron and the late Harry. Whilst did tell me a long time ago that she was a fan of corn snakes, I'm sure the urge to act and get these pets in must be related to the pregnancy-induced nesting instinct.

Anyway, despite the fact that we will now have a bag of dead mice in the freezer for the next twenty years*, Moe is a welcome and adorable addition to our little, but growing, family.

*Not the same bag for the whole twenty years...but there will always be a bag in there. And it is just as gross as it sounds :oP
