Fortunately, I can take comfort in my comparisons of Zack to his Auntie Hayley: she takes great pride in the fact that out of me and my siblings, she is the only one to have never visited Accident & Emergency. As she says:"I am clumsy and tough in equal measure"Here's hoping my dangerous boy has inherited that toughness too!
Well...unfortunately, with still two weeks to go until his second birthday, Zack has already blown his chances of matching Auntie Hayley's clean A&E record.
Last night, after a trip in Grandma's living room, it became apparent he had hurt his left arm. In fact he didn't want to use it at all; provided he didn't, he was quite happy. When this morning came and he still refused to move the arm we took him straight to Basildon A&E to get it checked out.
The nurse practitioner we saw seemed to know exactly what had happened as soon as we sat down, and after asking a few questions about how he fell, etc, stated he had probably pulled something in his elbow but would just need to do a precautionary x-ray.
Once that was out of the way, and we knew nothing was broken, the nurse set about manipulating the elbow joint to get everything back in it's proper place. That wasn't nice, but was thankfully over in maybe thirty seconds. The nurse reported that something had "clicked" and that we should take Zack round to children's play room to see if he would start using using his left arm.
Which he did, within seconds. No just for picking things up, but drumming on a table, waving in the air and for doing those funny Moe-from-Doodlebops-break-dancing-almost-handstand-things that he does when he's dancing. Mummy, Daddy and Grandma all laughed out loud through a wonderful mixture of relief, amusement and absolute astonishment.
So our first visit to A&E wasn't so bad overall, but I just wish I could believe that it could be our last visit.
